Introducing more home grown talent

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Julian Wilson as our new Executive Chef. Andy Barlow, who held the position for an astonishing 29 years, retired in 2013. However, his legacy will continue at Glyndebourne because he trained Julian for four years in the late 1980s.

Julian Wilson first came to Glyndebourne as a 16-year-old commis chef in June 1987. He then worked his way up to Head Chef responsible for Mildmay restaurant by the end of the 1990s. Since then he has had a number of exciting and challenging positions including Head Chef at Harrods; he was in charge of catering at Ernst and Young head office in London; he has produced meals for private and executive jets; was a development chef creating new products for the industry and latterly Executive Chef as a leading independent school in Sussex.

I am thrilled to welcome Julian back to Glyndebourne where I am confident you will enjoy the exceptional dishes he has created for all three restaurants by using his wealth of knowledge and experience, not to mention his early training here with Andy Barlow. I trust we will leave you with a memorable dining experience.

With very best wishes

Paul Frayn
