To help us know where you would like to enjoy your picnic, please request:
Main lawn (RED)
The main lawn is a popular picnic area in frontof the house. Enjoy your picnic in the shade of the Mulberry Tree or sun yourself while you take in the panoramic views of the Sussex countryside.
Ha-Ha lawn (YELLOW)
Named after the Ha-Ha ditch which keeps sheep at bay while providing the optical illusion of a seamless field, the Ha-Ha lawn offers slightly more shade than the main lawn, while retaining the same spectacular views across the South Downs. The BarBazaar is situated here too.
Lakeside lawn (BLUE)
Running outwards from the edge of the Mary Christie Rose Garden, bask in the dappled sunlight through the trees as you enjoy your picnic on the side of the lake closest to the opera house.
Lake view (PURPLE)
Situated behind the Plashett building and adjacent to the main car park, Lake View is easy to reach, usually sheltered and ideal for anyone with access requirements. The River Cottage Deli is close by, so handy for last minute additions or a barista-prepared coffee.
Far side of the lake (PINK)
For a truly secluded picnic, choose the far side of the lake. With plenty of shade from the trees you can easily find a spot where you could believe you were the only people there.(Due to longer wilder grass in some areas this is perhaps not a place for those who are affected by hay fever.)
